The vast majority of people that take photographs today use cellphone cameras and so they do not have to worry about which lens to use as they have no choice. A cellphone camera although is very useful for those unexpected photo ops, does not offer a wide range of photos that can be taken with it because it only has one lens. There are several different lenses which can be fitted to a DSLR camera and that is one of the reasons professional photographers use them and not the convenient cell phone cameras. Today a good camera would be considered to be something like the Sony A6000 camera and that has a variety of lenses which can be used with it. The best lenses for the sony a6000 include a wide-angle lens, a zoom lens and a macro lens, all of which can provide a photographer with the capability to take different types of shot. A wide-angle lens is a lens which allows for panoramic photos to be taken. The lens allows for a wide field of view and that is often excellent for scenic shots. A zoom lens allows the photographer to appear as if they are closer to the subject than they really are and so can take a clearer and cleaner shot of the subject. Although some cell phone cameras claim to have zoom lens capability, this is not strictly true as they do not bring the subject closer, they merely enlarge the regular photo, similar to what you could do with a photo on your PC. A macro lens is a lens that allows you to take close up photos of very small objects and so it is basically a microscope that takes pictures. It isn’t just the lenses though that make a DSLR camera better than the cameras on a cell phone, it is also the sensors built into the camera. Cellphone cameras, due to necessity, are always very small which means that their sensor is also very small. This means that as their sensor is small, it can only allow a certain area of light to be taken in and that very much restricts the amount of light with which a photograph can be taken. A DSLR camera though has no such restriction on the size of its sensor and so its sensor can give a far more accurate reading and as a DSLR camera can be manually set for aperture, a photograph can be taken in a far wider field of light settings. Flash photography certainly has its uses but at times can be a disadvantage to certain shots and yet as the sensor on a cell phone camera is small it may automatically go to flash when, with a DSLR camera, no flash would be necessary, only a wider aperture setting. So although cell phone cameras are popular and can take good photographs in certain settings, they will never completely replace the DSLR camera for certain important photographs.
